Asus Eee PC 1001P: Cheapest Netbook with Long Battery Life

Asus is probably the king of netbook manufacturers. The number of different netbook models that Asus sells is very long, and therefore it seemingly has a model at every price point and configuration possible. I have had my Asus Eee PC 1000HE for well over a year, and I am happy with its wireless features and nine hour battery life. However, at the time I paid a little over $400 for it, which is almost a premium price for a netbook.

If you are in the market for a low price netbook, you might want to take a look at the Asus Eee PC 1001P. For $299 you get a netbook that can run up to 8 hours, has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 160 GB hard drive. While it does not have Bluetooth, nor support for 801.11n, it does include a 802.11b/g wireless card.

My recommendation for netbooks is to buy one that has the longest battery life for the price you can afford. The point of a netbook is portability, and key to portability is battery life. I don’t even carry my netbook’s power supply with me unless I am going on a trip for several days. Beyond battery life you should then buy the model with the fastest processor, and the most memory and hard drive space that you can afford. Some form of wireless network connection is a must, and frankly I don’t know of any netbook that doesn’t have at least a 802.11b/g card. Based on the criteria that I just provided, the Asus Eee PC 1001P stacks up well if you want to spend a minimum amount of money on a netbook computer.
