Asus Android Tablet in March 2011? Asus Ebook Reader in October for $299? Cough cough. Hmm...

The Android tablets released so far have been underpowered and mostly running ancient versions of Android OS (pre-2.0). Prices have been attractive (sub-$200) for the most part. But, these underpowered devices have not seemed to have created much of a buzz beyond the gadget community (who don’t seem to be buying these in great numbers). The Dell Streak 5-inch mini-tablet is interesting but overpriced ($550 without a contract) and tied to AT&T’s network.

PC World reports that Asus, best known for its pioneering netbook products, is planning to sell a 10-inch Android-powered tablet for $399.
