YouTube Officially Announces ‘As Seen On’ Feeds For Blogs

YouTube has officially launched 'As Seen On' YouTube pages--feeds of embedded videos to celebrate bloggers and content curators. Find out more after the jump.

Last week we asked,“Is YouTube testing out new feeds for blogs?” when the Google Operating System blog reported that French blogger Philippe Lagane has come across a special page with a feed of his blog posts that included YouTube videos he had embedded.  A Google search turned up about fifty similar pages for blogs across the web and when we reached out to YouTube about what these pages were they told us, “We have been testing out our ‘As Seen On’ feature for the last year.  Beyond that, we don’t have any announcement at this point.”

Now YouTube has made their official announcement.  These pages are indeed part of a new feature—‘As Seen On’ YouTube pages—which launched officially last Friday.

On the YouTube blog, YouTube Product Manager Kurt Wilms and Software Engineer Nathan Hunt write, “Every day, [content curators] embed YouTube videos on blogs and sites across the web, often adding their own commentary and perspective.  This sharing of videos helps to show the variety of great content on YouTube, and often adds context to what you’re watching.  Today, with the launch of ‘As Seen On’ YouTube pages, we’re connecting those conversations around the web to deepen the connection to the YouTube videos your watching.”

Basically, YouTube has crawled the web feeds of sites and blogs with embedded videos to put together feeds highlighting the videos that have been uploaded.  From a blog’s ‘As Seen On’ page, viewers can watch specific videos, click to read the posts written about the videos, and even play all the videos in a playlist.  Check out our Social Times ‘As Seen On’ page as an example.

So far it doesn’t look like there is any way to search for ‘As Seen On’ pages.  Rather, viewers are directed to the pages from videos that have received a lot of traffic as a result of the posting.  You can see what that looks like in the screenshot we’ve taken here, from a video that was seen on Mashable.  Clicking on the link leads you to Mashable’s ‘As Seen On’ page.

Although there doesn’t appear to be a search for these pages as of yet, you can pretty easily find a specific blog’s page by inserting the name of the blog at the end of the following URL:“insert blog name here”
