Are You Funnier Than Gene Weingarten?

I realize that sounds like a rhetorical question. These days, I get more laughs out of “Schindler’s List” than any column by WaPo’s Pulitzer-Prize winning “humorist”, Gene Weingarten. Perhaps WaPo has realized how unfunny Weingarten has become, because they are inviting readers to enter their cleverly titled “Humor Contest.”

Readers may submit a funny tweet, photo or “true memoir” for the chance to win a cash prize. If your “true memoir” is selected, you win a grand prize of $1,000. For the funniest photo, you win $300 and for the funniest tweet, you could walk away with $140. (I get it.) This seems somewhat small considering you are, essentially, doing their work for them. They’ll be publishing the works in the WaPo Magazine and online in October.

To find the funniest person in Washington, D.C, the pub brought in heavy hitters to judge the works. They include real comedians like Lewis Black, Erin Jackson and Harris Wittels. (They also included Weingarten, who seems a little outclassed among touring comedians.)

If you think you have what it takes, learn more about the contest here.
