Apple's Mobile Ad Head Departing for Venture Firm

Will become general partner at Highland Capital

Apple’s vice president of mobile advertising, Andy Miller, is planning to leave the company, according to AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher. Sources told Swisher that Miller is taking a position as general partner at Highland Capital, the Boston venture firm that funded Miller’s mobile ad company Quattro Wireless, which he founded in 2006.

Miller sold Quattro to Apple in 2010 for $275 million. Since then, he has reported directly to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who said that Apple had originally wanted to buy AdMob, another advertising company, but after Google “came in and snatched” AdMob, Apple chose to go with Quattro instead.
