AOL to Shut Down or Sell 50+ Projects: Report

Silicon Alley Insider has some (appropriately) inside info on AOL’s plans to axe more than 50 projects and services within the company. This comes more than two months after a report that AOL was sunsetting little-used services such as MyMobile.

Among the cut services will be the company’s older mobile WAP portal, AOL Communicator, Journals, AOL Message Boards, AIM Today, UnCut, UnCut on Mobile, AOL Video DRM, and Windows Media Streaming.

The report said that while the site is far from convinced that AOL’s newish strategy, which is more or less dependent on the fortunes of its Platform A third-party ad network, will pan out, they mostly agree with the list of projects to shut down, saying that they “don’t see how keeping any of these items helps the company move forward.”
