Andy Borowitz: Calling President Bush a ‘Failure’ Like Calling Paris Hilton a ‘Whore’

“Some people say ‘President Bush is a failure,'” said Andy Borowitz last night at the Soho House. “I think that’s a terrible understatement — that’s like saying ‘Paris Hilton is a whore.'”

Borowitz, the humorist, author and co-creator of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, was celebrating the publication of his latest, The Republican Playbook, with the likes of amNY dating columnist Julia Allison, Pants-Off Dance-Off producer Tad Low and Slate editor Jacob Weisberg. Unlike the last book party FishbowlNY attended at the Soho House, there were no fights nor drinks thrown — just Borowitz, double-fisting glasses of Chardonnay, tackling the Bush administration. And despite Dick Cheney’s namecheck on the invitation, Borowitz said Bush was the real inspiration for his book.

“The war on terror was just so ambitious,” Borowitz said. “He didn’t declare war on ‘terrorism’ or ‘terrorists.’ He declared war on a human emotion.”
