America’s Got Talent Takes Number One with Some Hefty Ratings

You can call America’s Got Talent a success in its first season with Howard Stern as a judge. The semifinals brought down the house with a first-place finish, pulling in an estimated 765,000 WNBC viewers and a 3.9 rating.

But Fox News Channel had a surprise result, landing in second, thanks to Mitt Romney‘s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. The one-hour broadcast had 621,000 cable viewers and a 3.2 rating.

The RNC coverage boosted FNC to other Top 20 positions. For example, Tuesday night from Tampa it tied for seventh (441,000/2.3). The Thursday night edition of Hannity prior to Romney’s speech tied for 11th, while that night’s O’Reilly Factor tied for 20th (371,000/1.9).

Sports also got good numbers for the week. The Yankees had a third-place showing on the YES Network (527,000/2.7), while the Giants ended the preseason at number four (507,000/2.6).
