Amazon WiFi-only Kindle 3 Ship Date Keeps Slipping But Manual Available Now

If you pre-ordered a WiFi-only Kindle 3 for $139 shortly after it was announced, you are probably scheduled to receive it before the end of the month (August). I sat on the fence for a week and was told that it would probably be delivered around September 4. Since then I’ve seen the date slip to early October and then been told (via Amazon’s order status page) that no definite ship date is available. If you order right now (early in the morning of August 11), Amazon’s Kindle product page notes that it is sold out with an expected ship date on or before September 8.
