The Amazon Appstore is Coming Soon to Japan

Amazon has been planning to launch a Japanese Kindle Store for some time now and today the retail giant showed signs that they might be launching the Amazon Appstore there soon as well.

This morning Amazon announced that Android app developers can now submit apps for the Japanese market. Amazon hasn’t told us exactly when they plan to sell  Android apps in Japan, but clearly this is coming.

“Opening our portal to app and game developers looking to reach Japanese customers is an important milestone as we strive to serve consumers and developers globally,” says Jim Adkins, Vice President of the Amazon Appstore.

Amazon recently launched the Amazon Appstore in Italy, UK, France, Germany, and Spain, giving app developers more opportunities to grow their business. They have also added more ways for developers to monetize their apps, including in-app purchases. The In-App Purchasing API makes it easy for developers to offer in-game currency, expansion packs, and upgrades for purchase from within the  apps. Developers can even offer digital content and magazine subscriptions.

Jim goes on to add: “Many of our existing developers are anxious to localize their apps and games for Japanese consumers, and we look forward to working with new developers that have been waiting for a chance to bring their Japanese content to the Amazon platform. By continuing to expand our app program internationally, as well as build upon the app services offered by Amazon, we are giving developers the opportunity to attract more customers and expand their businesses.“
