Amazing Alex, Shadowgun and more on this week’s Android app charts

The top of the Android charts were once again dominated by apps we’ve seen several times in previous weeks, namely DeNA’s card-battle hit Rage of Bahamut, which refuses to budge from the No. 1 spot on the list of top grossing Android apps. The very top free apps are also still mostly official Google programs like Maps, Gmail and Street View. As expected, Rovio’s Amazing Alex continues to perform well, rising to the No. 3 spot of top paid Android apps from its No. 11 spot debut last week. This Week’s top grossing Android apps Tiny Village -- We begin our roundup of this week’s top grossing Android apps at the No. 7 spot with TinyCo’s Tiny Village, a city-building sim with a cute prehistoric theme. TinyCo has seen a lot of success with its Android games. You can read about their strategies and the findings of their most recent research here. Tiny Village is free and it has been installed more than a million times. Coin Dozer -- At the No. 18 spot is Game Circus’ Coin Dozer, a game in which players drop coins into an arcade-style machine to win prizes and more coins to play with. Bakery Story -- Coming in at the No. 20 spot is TeamLava Games’ (a Storm8 studio) Bakery Story, a game in which players design and manage their own bakery. Bakery Story is the most successful of TeamLava Games’ “story” games which include Fashion Story, Pet Shop Story, Zoo Story and many other variations on the same gameplay concept. The game is free to download, includes weekly content updates and has been installed more than five million times. The Oregon Trail: Settler -- At the No. 25 spot is Gameloft’s The Oregon Trail: Settler, a game that is in part inspired by the classic Oregon Trail computer game. Quests & Sorcery -- Closing off our list this week’s top grossing Android apps is Mobage’s Quests & Sorcery, a role-playing game in which players can choose between three character classes (Rogue, Mage or Warrior) and team up with their friends to explore an interactive world in search of gear and loot. The game was last updated on July 10 with various gameplay improvements. It is free to download and has been installed more than 100,000 times since it was first released. This week’s top free Android apps Voice Search -- At the No. 7 spot of top free Android apps this week is Google’s Voice Search, the app which allows users to search the web and their phone with voice commands. Marble Saga -- Way further down the list at the No. 21 spot is ITREEGAMER’s Marble Saga, a marble shooting puzzler and obvious clone of EA PopCap’s popular game Zuma. The game was last updated on July 13 with sound bug fixes. It is free to download and it has been installed more than a million times since it was first released. The vast majority of the 14,230 users who reviewed the game gave it the highest possible score of five stars. Kies air -- At the No. 23 spot is Samsung’s Kies air, an app which allows users to access and manage the content on their mobile device using their PC. Zedge -- Coming in at the No. 26 spot is Zedge, an Android personalization app which gives users access to free ringtones, wallpapers, alerts, live wallpapers and games. The app was last updated on June 18 with better functionality and more content. It is free to download and it has been installed an impressive 10 million times since it was first released. The vast majority of the 389,172 users who reviewed the app gave it the highest possible rating of five stars. Sonic CD Lite -- Our final pick for this week’s top free Android apps is Sega’s Sonic CD Lite, a mobile rerelease of the Sega CD classic starring the iconic blue hedgehog. This Week’s top paid Android apps Amazing Alex -- As we’ve expected, Rovio’s new non-Angry Birds title Amazing Alex continues to perform well, rising to the No. 3 spot from its No. 11 spot debut last week. The game is currently priced at $0.99 and has been installed more than 50,000 times since it was first released. In the game, players help Alex solve physics-based puzzled by constructing Rube Goldberg-like machines. Temple Run: Brave -- At the No. 10 spot is Disney’s Temple Run: Brave, a variation on the original and popular Temple Run game in the theme of Pixar’s most recent film. The game is priced at $0.99. Grand Theft Auto III -- Coming in at the No. 22 spot is Rockstar Games’ mobile version of the seminal crime action game, released in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The game is currently priced at $4.99 and has been installed more that 500,000 times. The game sold well when it was first released but sales have dropped off dramatically since. The average rating of the game is 3.5, and while most of the user reviews are positive, the second most popular rating users gave it was the lowest possible rating of one star. Sprinkle -- Coming in at the No. 26 spot is Mediocre’s Sprinkle, a water physics-based puzzle game. The game is an Editor’s Choice currently priced at $0.99. Shadowgun -- Finally, rounding off our list of this week’s top paid Android apps is Madfinger Games’s Shadowgun which comes in at the No. 30 spot. Shadowgun is a third-person shooter in the vein of AAA console titles, namely Epic’s Gear of War. Shadowgun is currently priced at $4.99. It has been installed more than 100,000 times since it was first released. It was last updated on January 27 with a significant amount of new content.
