Airbnb Offers Free Listings to Help Sandy Victims

Digital housing marketplace waives transaction fee in NYC area

Airbnb is working with New York City to help residents displaced by Hurricane Sandy victims find housing. The digital marketplace for temporary housing is letting members offer their properties for free to Sandy victims, setting up a dedicated website for the effort. (There's normally a 3 percent charge of the transaction value for the property listers when reservations are booked.)

In a blog post earlier today, the San Francisco-based company said it has seen 2,500 bookings in areas hit by Sandy since the storm nine days ago, estimating 4,000 guests found a place to stay via its site.
