Adult Swim Unveils a Lineup of Robust and Funny Shows

Cable's top network in total day viewership dives into Upfront

Adult Swim announced a slate of more than 30 new and returning series, pilots and specials today, featuring more of the off-kilter, hilarious shows that have made it basic cable's No. 1 network for the last decade in total day viewership among adults 18-24 and 18-34.

"Adult Swim has always been known as a place for taking risks and for great talent trying interesting things," said Christina Miller, president and gm of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang. "Mike [Lazzo] and his team continue to raise the bar, always knowing what the Adult Swim fan wants; and this new slate of original programming adds to our growing lineup of successful primetime comedies."

Among the new original series and specials:

  • TV Sucks, a 15-minute animated sketch series from Brad Neely that includes one of the strangest press release lines in recent memory: "Beware, however, as this show hates you."
  • A golf special starring Jon Daly and Adam Scott competing in a televised golf championship from 1966.
  • Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, a live-action miniseres in which a neon-clad werewolf hunter does what he does best in a cozy Vermont town.
  • Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories, which returns for two more live-action specials later this year.
  • Brett Gelman is back with a third installment of his dark Dinner With Friends half-hour specials.
  • Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Friendship is Magic (working title), its third spoof of superheroes like Batman and Superman, featuring voice work from celebs including Nathan Fillion, Alfred Molina and Batman & Robin duo Adam West and Burt Ward.

They will join returning Adult Swim series like The Jack and Triumph Show, Robert Chicken, Rick and Morty, Mike Tyson Mysteries and Childrens Hospital.

"There is no better environment for an advertiser seeking to engage and connect with this sought-after millennial consumer," said Donna Speciale, Turner Broadcasting Ad Sales' president. "Through premium top-rated multi-screen programming, custom-produced branded content, on-site media activations and digital engagement, there is limitless return potential for marketers aligning with us and this valuable brand."

Adult Swim also announced 12 pilots. Highlights include Mr. Neighbor's House, a children's show hosted by Childrens Hospital's Brian Huskey and The Pound Hole, a late-night dance party Adult Swim is calling "a contemporary Soul Train."

The network also debuted new streaming channels on for The Venture Bros., Tim & Eric, Toonami: Pre-Flight and FishCenter, with more channels launching later in the year.

The Adult Swim release, however, is missing three important words: Too Many Cooks

Adult Swim, which airs nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (sharing space with Cartoon Network), is available in 96 million U.S. homes.
