ADP: 42,000 Jobs Added In July

The private economy grew by 42,000 jobs in July, according to ADP’s National Employment Report, released today.

This is the sixth consecutive monthly gain for the economy, though “over those six months increases have averaged a modest 37,000, with no evidence of acceleration,” the report read.

The ADP report only covers private sector hiring, so the employment figure from the government, due Friday, will differ slightly. Census workers, which have been shoring up public-sector employment numbers for months, have begun to end their assignments, so the Bureau of Labor Statistic number may be weaker than ADP’s report…economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecast
