Adelphia Goes Porn-Crazy

Ex-Adelphia chief John Rigas must be a very unhappy man today. First, he’s awaiting sentencing having been convicted of embezzling from his own company. Now that company which he lovingly defrauded for years is becoming the first major cable provider to offer pay-per-view XXX porn, despite his decision to drop the Spice channel a few years back on moral grounds.

Per usual, the LA Times coverage of this story buries the most intruiging bit towards the end of the article (we added the bold-face):

Playboy is gearing up to supply a variety of programs on demand that will keep subscribers running up the bill. One goal: to increase the seven-minute viewing time historically clocked by the average person who orders an adult pay-per-view movie.

Seven minutes? On my DirectTV (and no, I did not know this until I checked just now) those movies cost $14.99. Were one to seek the kinds of gratification offered by this sort of programming on the streets of LA, for $2.14/minute one could do a lot better. I hope the Times does a follow-up on this in the Thursday Calendar section.
