ABC News Will Have a Paywall by June

abcnews03152010.gifpaidContent reports that ABC News Digital has plans to erect a paywall this summer.

ABC News Digital Senior Vice President Paul Slavin told paidContent in an interview that the mooted subscription service would focus on creating added value, but that he was open to popular services like The Note politics blog falling behind the paywall.

Slavin said that ABC News would be testing models as early as June, but that the strategy would be subject to change according to the audience response.

ABC News is currently undergoing a massive overhaul. The division has already begun efforts to cut between 300 and 400 jobs through buyouts.

Slavin told paidContent that the digital team is maintaining its commitment to delivering quality journalism throughout the process, and that he foresees that “in digital, everyone will become a multitasker” as the company continues to search for additional revenue models.
