JohnCohenABC News has added John Cohen to their National Security team as a contributor, announced ABC President James Goldston in an editorial meeting this morning.

Cohen, based in DC, has plenty of national security experience, as he was a senior policy advisor to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, as well as former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.

Below is full staff note from Goldston:

I’m pleased to announce that John Cohen is joining ABC News as a contributor covering national security, counterterrorism and law enforcement for all our programs and platforms.

John has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and homeland security. He is an expert in intelligence gathering and analysis, countering violent extremism, and preventing and responding to mass casualty/active shooter attacks. Until last year, he worked at the Department of Homeland Security as the Acting Under Secretary and Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis, where he was responsible for gathering, analyzing and disseminating intelligence information.

John has also served as a Senior Investigator on the House Judiciary Committee and as a Senior Policy Advisor to several cabinet secretaries and governors, including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, as well as the Executive Office of the President of the United States.

John started his career in law enforcement straight out of college as an agent at the Naval Investigative Service in Los Angeles, before going on to become a local police officer and SWAT team member in Gardena, CA. During his six and a half year tenure there, John won a “Medal of Valor” for running into a burning building to save an injured woman’s life.

We have committed ourselves to growing our already unparalleled national security team. This work is some of the most important journalism we do—providing our audience with the most accurate reporting and in-depth analysis and insights about our safety at home and abroad. John’s breadth of experience and knowledge will be an invaluable asset to our exceptional team.

Please join me in congratulating him on his new role.
