While gaming often gets a bad rap for the perception that it can encourage laziness or anti-social behavior, research has shown it can also have therapeutic benefits. A 2020 study from the University of Oxford found that video games could help improve players’ mental health and wellbeing. 

Perhaps to overcome some of the negative tropes associated with the industry, in recent years Xbox has highlighted gaming’s deeper purpose and potential to forge social connections. For example, in 2021, it encouraged connections between younger and older generations by asking young people to donate their used Xbox consoles to the elderly.
