The Boston Red Sox, playoff bound but still staging promotions more appropriate for the last-place Tampa Bay Devil Rays, received more than 1,250 nominations from 45 states and six countries as it seeks to elect an honorary “president” of Red Sox Nation. The winner will represent the Sox and their fans nationwide. The club has whittled the list of hopefuls to 25, or actually 26, if you count “Big Pupi,” a canine from Austin, Texas, named after slugger David Ortiz.
