What fate awaits Barry Bonds’ No. 756?

I guess you have to give Marc Ecko some measure of credit: He doesn’t do the same old, same old. Droga5 won a Cannes Grand Prix in 2006 for a viral video campaign that purported to show the fashion designer spray-painting Air Force One. Ecko’s latest publicity ploy is putting up a Web site to let fans determine what to do with Barry Bonds’ 756th home-run ball, the one that the suspected steroid user hit out of the park to break Hank Aaron’s record. Ecko bought the ball at an auction on Saturday for $752,467. He’s set up a Web site, vote756.com, for fans to decide the ball’s fate, though he’s only giving them three options: send to the Hall of Fame as is; send it in with an asterisk; or, more implausibly, “put the ball on a rocket ship and launch it into space.” Let’s hope enough people choose No. 3 by the Sept. 25 deadline. Maybe Droga5 will get the assignment.
