It’s the Irony Awards season. Wunderman in Irvine, Calif., recently won a Webby Award (shown here) for designing Sony’s LocationFree TV site, with special props going out to senior copywriter Ben Peters and art directors Susie Lim and Alex Chu. But the win, for Best Consumer Electronics Web site, came months after Sony Electronics dropped the agency like a bad habit. So Wunderman set about making lemonade out of that lemon, putting the Webby up for sale on eBay. Here’s the enticing sales pitch: “Congratulations to all the Webby Award winners. For those who didn’t win, here’s your chance to impress your coworkers and prospective clients. … Condition: Excellent. Size: Approx. 12" tall. Divorce forces sale.” “We don’t want the Webby people to think we don’t value the award,” says Peters. “This is our way of celebrating it.” To wit, the reserve price for the item is $20,000.
