It’s bad enough that my colleague wants to create a counterfeit iPhone*, but someone apparently thinks there’s money to be had in counterfeit toothpaste. Yes, someone has distributed fake tubes of Colgate toothpaste to discount stores “dollar-type” stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. (The fake tubes are identified by the telltale “Manufactured in South Africa” label, not to mention the misspellings “SOUTH AFRLCA” and “South African Dental Assoxiation.”) While I’m no criminal mastermind, I’m not sure I see where the money lies in this scheme.
