It's hard for me to not roll my eyes when a big corporation tries to create a meme. This time it's Walmart, which has introduced an obnoxious talking fruitcake, the alliteratively named Frank, whom people can upload to their Facebook pages. At least the retailer did the right thing by not plastering its name and logo all over the thing—so, in that sense it's a departure from standard protocol. Frank himself, created by The Martin Agency, is a less-radical amalgam of the Singing Christmas Sandwich and PayPal's Regifted Fruitcake, only without the bizarre charm of the former or the charitable inclinations of the latter.
