Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo denies playing the “fear card,” yet this spot about Islamic jihadists attacking an American shopping mall is stirring up some controversy. “There’s nothing over the top about this,” Tancredo’s campaign manager, Bay Buchanan, tells CNN. The ad refers to “Islamic terrorists … frothing with hate” and takes a swipe at “the 20 million aliens who have come to take our jobs.” Tancredo is known for his fiery far-right rhetoric, having previously called Miami a “third-world country” and advocated bombing Muslim holy sites as a “deterrent” to attacks on the U.S.
