Between 50-70 million people around the world stammer, including US President Joe Biden. While 8% of children will stammer at some point in their lives and 1-3% of adults say that they do, stammering is rarely heard in the media—and, when it is, it is usually portrayed in a negative or comedic light.

STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, is petitioning for greater representation of stammering in the media. Its campaign marks International Stammering Awareness Day on Oct.
