Soccer stars and their (nonexistent) Web sites

With the new soccer season under way in Europe, we had visions of doing a nice, breezy post about the official Web sites of the big soccer superstars. We would take the big three first: Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham. But immediately we were stymied! Ronaldo’s site, called R9, was “under construction.” Zidane’s was available only in French and Spanish. And Beckham’s official site—well, there doesn’t even seem to be an official David Beckham site! (If there is, we couldn’t find it.) So, moving a little further down the pecking order, Thierry Henri—nope, no official site for him either. Andriy Shevchenko? No official site. We’re sensing a theme. Ronaldinho? He has a site—but it’s very basic looking and also not available in English. These top-notch European athletes don’t seem to care a lick about the Web! It’s a bit of a departure from the U.S., where you can start off with the official sites of Tiger Woods, Shaquille O’Neal and Andy Roddick and go from there.
