Random thoughts on Snoop and Iacocca

Frankly, we just don’t know what to make of this whole Lee
Iacocca-Snoop Dogg commercial for Chrysler
. As you might recall, we, too, felt
that Iacocca, who is 80 years old, had, what The New York Times calls in this
“demographic limitations” but we weren’t expecting the company to do this
to update his image. On the other hand, the spot is created by BBDO, which once partnered Donny and Marie Osmond with the Osbournes, which, for reasons that have always escaped us, people thought was a laff-riot. Question to ponder: off-camera, did Iacocca ask Snoop to
pimp his ride? (Also, note how the Times refers to Snoop as Mr. Broadus,
vaguely reminiscent of when it allegedly referred to Meatloaf as Mr. Loaf, and
Bono as Mr. Vox. Some things never change.)
