Phenomenal Launches Content-Driven Crown Month in Celebration of Black Hair

Conversations about Black hair are often centered on egregiously discriminatory policies, such as bans on hairstyles in offices or schools or retailers locking away products for textured hair. But a new campaign from female-driven social-cause brand Phenomenal is looking to shift the conversation to encourage Black women to unapologetically celebrate their tresses.

The effort kicks off with a two-minute video titled “Own Your Crown” created by Phenomenal Productions and video agency Hayden5. Directed by JJ Anderson, the PSA features a poem from Yazmin Monet Watkins being read over footage of women fashioning their hair in braids, fades and other natural styles while sharing that same care and love with young girls.
