With states across the country seeking to restrict how transgender athletes compete, The GenderCool Project and Nike are spotlighting the joy that young people find in school sports.

The partnership released a 30-second campaign spot directed by Kobi Swissa of Swissa Creative. The creative, which features 11 transgender and nonbinary kids age 13-17 sharing their love of team sports, is airing nationally as part of the organization’s larger Play It Out platform.

The ad opens with the question “Have you ever met a transgender kid?” before transitioning to video of kids competing in a wide variety of sports including soccer, fencing and basketball accompanied by testimonials from the athletes.

“When you’re playing a sport, it’s not just about you,” 17-year-old Amir says in the ad.
