Mark Burnett hoping the jingle isn’t dead

CBS is planning an ad-jingle show from Mark Burnett called Jingles. “The eight-episode order will pit teams of contestants against each other in weekly battles to determine who can come up with the most effective commercial ditty,” reports Mediaweek. I’ve got a killer tune in mind for the iPhone. Can’t give away too much here, but the words encourage product consumption in stark, emotional terms. (“Buy one or die” is the refrain.) I’m thinking Bono for the vocal. And like all proper jingles, it will sample a Yaz song: maybe “Bad Connection” (give “Don’t Go” a rest for a change). I miss the ’80s. You had to stay home to make phone calls back then.
