Juan Valdez could win in a landslide

Juan1Due to what we hear is "heavy campaigning" at the polling places from his native land, Juan Valdez, the spokesperson for the Colombian Coffee Federation has a commanding lead in this year’s vote for America’s Favorite Ad Icon, a lead-in to the Advertising Week 2005 business card swap-meet that will be held the last week in September in New York. We realize that it’s somewhat of an oxymoron—or perhaps an oxymoronical act—to have the voting for America’s Favorite Ad Icon seemingly swung by people from South America—unless you’re going with the broader definition of "Americas" in which case the apostrophe is in the wrong place— but there you have it. The results so far were announced at a press conference earlier today. The Geico Gecko is currently in second. As far as the voting for America’s Favorite Ad Slogan, neither of the top two are from BBDO (see Phil Dusenberry post below). At this writing, Hallmark is in first place with “When you care enough to send the very best,” and the U.S. Postal Service is in second with “We deliver for you.” You can vote here through Sept. 23rd.
