With 300 drones, Intel lit up the sky to celebrate Pride month and to also show an ode to one of its LGBTQ employees.
Intel’s infamous drone light shows, which have taken over skies for the Super Bowl, the Winter Olympics and music festivals, finally did one for Pride. The celebration, which took place above Intel’s campus in Folsom, California, on June 23, was closed to the public but open to the company’s employees and LGTBQ allies. Intel worked with advertising agency TBWA Chiat Day to put together the event.

As part of the drone’s light show, same-sex symbols were shown as well the Pride flag and chosen illustrations that celebrate two LGBTQ couples (one of which is an Intel employee). Through the Intel Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allied Employee Resource Group (IGLOBE), Intel found an employee who was interested in sharing the story of their relationship.

The drone light show didn’t stop there. Intel also recorded and made a short film encompassing the drones and the two LGBTQ couples stories and reactions to seeing their personalized illustrations put on in the sky.
“We stand with our LGBTQ colleagues, partners, suppliers, customers and the entire LGBTQ community, by showing our support through our words and actions,” said Barb Whye, chief diversity and inclusion officer at Intel in a press release.
The day before the celebration outdoors, Intel put on an indoor drone light show at AT&T’s flagship store in San Francisco for the city’s kickoff to Pride weekend. Tina Guo, a Grammy-nominated cellist, performed “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga.
