A Great Beer Commercial for Guys Who Can't Stand Wine

New Zealand brewer just says no

"It was 1987, and New Zealand was going off." That great line launches this amusing spot for DB Export Dry beer (via Colenso BBDO in Auckland), which takes aim at the New Zealand wine craze of that era—which men evidently were none too pleased about. The commercial's faux-vintage look is great, as are the hairstyles and the dejected looks from guys who'd rather be having a beer—cousins in spirit to AMV BBDO's Guinness sheep boys. The spot also celebrates the legendary Morton W. Coutts, a New Zealand born inventor who revolutionized brewing in the 1930s with his continuous fermentation method. Here, an actor plays Coutts—the man himself died in 2004 at age 100.
