When Jackie Gleason wasn’t using space travel as a metaphor
for spousal abuse or chasing Burt Reynolds around the rural South, he was voicing his support for
Richard Nixon
. That makes way more sense than it should. Although the audio
here is a little muddy, it’s still worth hearing Gleason express his worries
for the country’s direction and concluding that only a racist, paranoid asshole
could put us back on course. I just wish Art Carney had supported Hubert
