Carrie Underwood joins literacy campaign

Some of you might consider “Read Y’All” to be a poor tagline for a literacy campaign. But Oklahoma doesn’t really care about y’all’s bad attitude. More than 20 percent of the state’s adult population can’t read, and Read Y’All wants to do something about that. Now it has a fresh new face for its advertising: Carrie Underwood, the winner of American Idol season four. Underwood was born in Muskogee, Okla., in 1983. She’s done some public-service work before, for The Humane Society. Presumably, she herself can read. She’s also been featured in Hershey’s, Skechers and “Got milk?” ads. In the past, Read Y’All has featured a host of other Sooners on its posters, such as Toby Keith, Kristin Chenoweth and James Garner.
