I don’t know how many Adam Ant fans are left in the world, but when I was a kid growing up in the U.K. in the early 1980s, no one could touch him. He placed nine songs in the charts in about 18 months, and every kid my age was begging for face paint so we could look like him—oblivious to the fact that characters like the dandy highwayman and Prince Charming might be a little on the effeminate side.
