This week in silly advertising hyperbole—a South African ad featuring a gritty war scene, with a soldier storming a beach and then running (and cycling) for his life through a bombed and burned-out landscape. This is to sell … sports watches and GPS-enabled sneakers made by Garmin Fitness. The ad, from Volcano Advertising and director Slim, is very well made, but obviously some people will consider the metaphor to be in poor taste, much like the recent Men's Wearhouse ad from Mullen that was set in the "manly" trenches of World War I.
