Globally, sex workers are subject to high levels of discrimination. In many cases, prejudice against the profession can be traced back to criminalization.

But even in the Netherlands, where sex work is legalized, sex workers aren’t given the same legal protections afforded to other professions. Workers are under the constant threat of targeted legislation, and 93% of the community still faces emotional violence, while 24% experience bias from financial institutions (i.e. not being able to open business accounts).
