I’m someone with a fascination with Apple. Here are the four main takeaways from Apple’s event on Tuesday:

  • Speed as always
  • Color is back
  • M1s are here to stay
  • Sustainability is important

Podcasts

I have never been a fan of the podcast app on any Apple, but this is a game changer, and I will be changing my podcast app to this to test it out. I love the fact that there’s going to be a podcast subscription but Apple is asking for 30% take on podcast subscriptions. Why not set the podcast percentage so low so that others can’t compete? If you give 30% and still have to do all the marketing, isn’t that just a lot?

AirTag/Find My

Those AirTags are a run for your money. Cheaper than the Tile, collectively. I love the Hermès collection; I love seeing fashion and technology come together.

Apple TV/Siri remote

I see the hype. Apple TV has fans.

One thing to note about the TV and iPhone color balance: This is technology in our hands. As someone who has color balanced a screen before, this is wild. Apple can only go up from here.

M1/Mac

Skinnier Macs with an M1 chip + colors = nostalgia. This is pure nostalgia to the first Macs with color.

M1 is a game changer. I’m glad to see the power efficiency Mac has to offer. Yet, I’m left to ask: Do I have to buy another dongle to use my USB-C to USB device? (The answer is yes.)

But let’s talk about speed for a second. As much as I love running multiple programs, I’m a fan of monotasking. And I’ll give Apple credit for making their computers faster and faster.

iPad

That iPad commercial had to be the highlight of the day. It was a good check in to see if you were interested. Apple’s move to make the iPad a thing rather than carrying your laptop will always amaze me.

P.S. I miss Jony Ive.
