YouTube Originals Chief Doesn’t Regret Letting Cobra Kai Leave for Netflix

Susanne Daniels is doubling down on unscripted and documentaries in 2021 slate

YouTube’s biggest scripted series ever, the Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai, has since become a breakout hit on Netflix after YouTube waved goodbye to the show last year. But YouTube Originals programming chief Susanne Daniels isn’t sweating the loss of her highest profile show.  

At the Television Critics Association’s virtual winter press tour Wednesday, Daniels said that the content the service has instead prioritized following last year’s strategy shift—namely, celebrity and YouTube star-led series, and documentary programming centered on music and education—are paying off handsomely for the service.
