Edward Felsenthal, who has been Time’s digital editor since 2013, has been named editor in chief, effective immediately.

Earlier this week, Nancy Gibbs, the first woman to hold the top position at Time, announced she’d be leaving her position. She’s been with the company 32 years.

Time’s audience has more than doubled since Felsenthal joined 4 years ago. He was named to the additional role of digital director of Time’s news and lifestyle groups in 2016, which covers more than a dozen brands.

“During a complex and intense news cycle, we used all of our muscles and story techniques,” Felsenthal said of recent coverage.
