The CW Announces Fall Premiere Dates Starting Aug. 31

The CW has finally announced its fall premiere dates. The news makes The CW the fifth broadcaster to reveal its fall season premieres, trailing NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC. However, it's among the first to get things started. The CW’s 2022-2023 schedule begins with the third season of DC’s Stargirl on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a wait after that. The new legal drama Family Law doesn't debut until Sunday, Oct. 2. The fourth season of crime procedural Coroner then follows on Sundays at 9 p.m. DC's Stargirl doesn't get new company on Wednesdays until early October, with the third season of Kung Fu joining the schedule on Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. The new season of Walker then premieres on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m., and the highly-anticipated Western prequel Walker Independence follows at 9 p.m. The CW Wraps Upfront With Strong Volume and 9-11% CPM Increases All American, one of the series that drew the most interest from advertisers during The CW's upfront negotiations, returns for its fifth season on Monday, Oct. 10. Another of those in-demand shows from the upfront, All American: Homecoming, joins for its second season starting at 9 p.m. The highly-anticipated Supernatural spinoff, The Winchesters, premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. The series, a prequel to the Supernatural franchise, follows the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester as he details his parents' love story. The premiere of Professionals follows at 9 p.m. Longtime series Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Whose Line Is It Anyway return on Friday, Oct. 14. Penn & Teller: Fool Us debuts its ninth season at 8 p.m., while Whose Line Is It Anyway follows with its eleventh season at 9 p.m. Criss Angel's Magic With the Stars has its series debut on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 9 p.m. And World's Funniest Animals closes out the night at 9 and 9:30 p.m. In addition to its regular programming, the network is airing the two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. on both nights. A transition year for the network When announcing its fall schedule in May, The CW noted that Riverdale, one of its longest-running and most popular series, is ending next season. The network also canceled several other series, including Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Charmed and Dynasty, in an apparent attempt to go leaner as a potential sale to Nexstar Media Group looms. However, despite this being a transition year for the broadcaster, The CW was once again the first upfront week presenter to cross the finish line for negotiations. Adweek confirmed that The CW wrapped up talks in mid-June, with CPM (cost per thousand viewers reached) increases around 9-11%. In addition to All American and All American: Homecoming, The Winchesters, Walker Independence and Gotham Knights were shows that drew increased interest from advertisers.
