Sopranos Intro Gets a Shot-for-Shot Remake in Chevy Silverado's Super Bowl Ad

For fans of the HBO show, nostalgia references abound, including appearances by both of Tony's kids

The last time we saw The Sopranos, Tony and his family were sitting in a diner when an abrupt fade to black left viewers wondering what happened to the mob boss.

Now Chevrolet, oddly enough, has pulled back the veil to give us a peek at the fates of at least two of the HBO show’s characters via a Super Bowl spot for its electric Silverado pickup.

The ad features a shot-for-shot remake of the opening credits. But instead of Tony Soprano at the wheel of a 1999 Chevy Suburban, it’s the woman that played his daughter Meadow for six seasons, Jamie Lynn-Sigler, driving a first-ever all-electric Chevy Silverado. Tony’s cigar is replaced with a lollipop as she drives the same route as Tony did in the opening credits, backed by the same song, Alabama 3’s “Woke Up This Morning.” She passes all the New Jersey locales seen in the original credits, from the turnpike to Satriale’s Meat Market.

As she pulls up to a charging station, she finds a familiar face: Robert Iler, who played her brother, A.J. Soprano, in the series. The Silverado also pulls in neatly to the charging parking spot, subtly referencing Meadow’s repeated struggles with parallel parking near the closing of the show’s series finale.

The ad, of course, brings up what many people had questioned at the series’ end, when Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” was cut off mid-song—did the family survive? This at least answers that query for two of the characters, who seem to be alive and well in the suburbs of New Jersey.

There are plenty of other Sopranos references in the Chevy ad, including driving out of the Lincoln Tunnel to Newark Airport, but the modern twists include a blue Chevy Silverado and an ending that doesn’t involve a suburban home hiding mob secrets.

Chevy worked with Commonwealth//McCann, which did the touching “Holiday Ride” ad for the holidays, to create the Sopranos-themed spot.
