Former Saturday Night Live star Norm Macdonald passed away Tuesday morning after a nine-year private battle with cancer at age 61, according to several reports.

He was an SNL cast member from 1993-98, anchoring the show’s Weekend Update segment for three seasons, and was also known for his Burt Reynolds impersonation on the sketch show.

The Quebec City-born comedian first began his career in comedy clubs in Canada before becoming a contestant on Star Search in 1990.
