Yesterday’s Winners: So You Think You Can Dance (Fox), The Big Bang Theory R (CBS), CSI R (CBS), The Mentalist R (CBS) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Love Bites (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: There was nothing unusual to report on this fourth Thursday in June, which housed seven hours (or 54 percent) of repeat programming. A night of all encores on CBS -- The Big Bang Theory (#1t: 4.8 rating/9 share), Rules of Engagement (#3: 3.7/ 6), CSI (#1: 5.2/ 9) and The Mentalist (#1: 5.4/ 9) -- finished first overall in the overnights. Next was ABC, followed by Fox, distant NBC and The CW. In series-premiere news, Amazing Race-like reality/competition Expedition Impossible on ABC opened with a second-place 4.2/ 7 in the overnights at 9 p.m., which maintained 95 percent of lead-in Wipeout (#2: 4.4/ 8 at 8 p.m.). For a typically lazy summer night, consider this respectable sampling. At 10 p.m. on ABC was the second season-premiere of Canadian drama Rookie Blue at a second-place 3.8/ 6. Comparably, retention for Rookie Blue out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Expedition Impossible (4.1/ 7) was 93 percent. Over at Fox, the live So You Think You Can Dance Results Show led the 8 p.m. hour, with a 5.0/ 9 in the overnights. Next on Fox was a repeat of Glee at a typically lackluster third-place 2.3/ 4 at 9 p.m. Fourth-place NBC remained out of the competitive loop with its combination of repeats of Community (#4: 1.7/ 3), 30 Rock (#4: 1.6/ 3), The Office (#4: 1.9/ 3) and Parks and Recreation (#4: 1.8/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., and week of failing Love Bites at 10 p.m. (#3: 1.7/ 3). Needless to say, NBC is just burning off the original episodes of Love Bites, which was originally supposed to launch last fall. And The CW filled the evening with repeats of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 0.8/ 1) and Nikita (#5: 0.7/ 1), which moves into the Friday 8 p.m. hour in September. Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) _______________________________________________________________ RATINGS BOX: What’s Hot/What’s Not 25 Million Viewers Tune in for President Obama: President Obama’s live address to the country on Wednesday, June 22 on the war in Afghanistan averaged a 16.4 household rating/31 share, with 25.35 million viewers from approximately 8-8:15 p.m. ET/PT. The networks carrying the live speech were ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC. As a basis of comparison, viewing levels for past Obama speeches are as follows: May 5, 2011 – Death of Bin Laden: 33.9 rating/57 share, 39.24 million viewers August 31, 2010 – Iraq: 18.8 rating/36 share, 21.82 million viewers December 1, 2009 – Afghanistan: 25.9 rating/44 share, 29.91 million viewers Cable Scorecard – Wednesday, June 22: Recently introduced TNT legal drama Franklin & Bash was the most-watched of the 24 original series on basic cable, while The Challenge Rivals on MTV ranked first among adults 18-49, with a 1.1 rating in the demo. Week two of TV Land sitcom Happily Divorced lost noticeable steam, meanwhile, with erosion of 910,000 viewers (2.41 to 1.50 million) and 20 percent among adults 18-49 (0.5 to 0.4). But former Lost stars Terry O’Quinn and Daniel Dae Kim will reunite on CBS’ returning Hawaii Five-O. O’Quinn will appear on a recurring basis next season as a Navy Seal Lt. Commander who trained McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) in Coronado and served with his father in Vietnam. He's a man with secrets, holding some of the answers to the mysteries surrounding the murder of McGarrett's parents. Lisa Edelstein Heads to The Good Wife: Former House star Lisa Edelstein will appear in a multi episode arc on CBS’ The Good Wife next season as a character described as a lawyer and poker player who shares a past will Will (Josh Charles). Edelstein exited long-running house after failing to come to an agreement on a new contract. Updated Rules of Engagement Clearances in Off-Net: Sony Pictures Television has cleared sitcom Rules of Engagement in 75 percent of the country for its debut in off-network syndication in September 2012.
