It was just over a year ago that Hallmark Channel found itself in an unusual position: embroiled in controversy. In December 2019, the network sparked outrage for briefly pulling several ads featuring a same-sex couple kissing, at the same time it was weathering criticism for a lack of racial, sexual and religious diversity in its holiday movies.
