Long live the Tiger King: Netflix is making a followup to its hit docuseries, which became a breakout hit last year at the start of the pandemic.

Top line

Tiger King 2 is set to debut on Netflix later this year, the streamer said today, leading a slate of five upcoming true crime documentaries focusing on cons and scams.

Between the lines

The original true crime documentary series arrived on Netflix in late March 2020 and became Covid-19’s first smash lockdown hit: the streamer said 64 million households watched Tiger King during its first four weeks.

Netflix said the sequel, Tiger King 2, will feature “more madness and mayhem” than the breakout 2020 documentary, which followed the bizarre world of big-cat enthusiasts like Joe Exotic and his long-standing feud with animal rights activist Carole Baskin.
