Netflix Blames Content Lag for Subscriber Growth Slowdown

Company misses forecast after months of pandemic surges

At the end of 2020, streaming giant Netflix had a somewhat astonishing 203 million global subscribers as consumers upended by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic continued watching more programming than ever. But in the first quarter of 2021, that high is starting to dissipate.  

The streaming service today told investors it added less than 4 million new subscribers globally in its most recent quarter, missing the company’s own subscriber forecast by more than 2 million. Netflix ended the quarter with 207.6
