Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. ---------- -Friday’s Winners:CSI: NY (CBS), Blue Bloods (CBS) -Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):School Pride (NBC), Dateline (NBC), The Good Guys (Fox) ---------- -Note: Any prior rating comparisons are based on the live plus same day ratings. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS led the struggling Friday troops, with another first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. But, as I say every week, under 10-million viewers with just a 1.7 in the demo is nothing to boast about. Medium, which just had its episode order slashed from 22 to 13 this season, opened the evening for CBS with 6.86 million viewers (#1) and a second-place 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. One year earlier, former occupant Ghost Whisperer was stronger at 8.29 million viewers and a 2.0/ 7 in the demo on Oct. 30, 2009. That led into older-skewing favorites CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.42 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6) and Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.54 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6) from 9-11 p.m., which in this lackluster environment are definitely considered “winners.” If CBS can strengthen the 8 p.m. hour in midseason, both crime solvers could benefit. ABC got a minor boost at 8 p.m., with a repeat of annual holiday special It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown at 5.45 million viewers (#2) and a dominant 1.6/ 6 among adults 18-49. There is just something about those Peanuts specials that takes you right back to your childhood. Next was the season-premiere of Mr. TV favorite Primetime: What Would You Do? at a similar 5.39 million viewers (#2) and a 1.7/ 5 in the demo (#2) at 9 p.m. On a higher HUT level night, these results could have been considered a “loser,” but not on Friday. Veteran 20/20 capped off the evening for ABC with a compatible 5.37 million viewers (#2) and a 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49 #2) at 10 p.m. Over at NBC, week three of reality dud School Pride, which is a good cure for insomnia, limped out of the gate with a last-place finish in both total viewers (2.35 million) and adults 18-49 (0.6/ 2) at 8 p.m. Minus the lead-in support, another two-hour edition of Dateline finished a distant third with 4.04 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 in the demo from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Dateline (NBC) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.45 million (#3), A18-49: 1.1/ 4 (#3t) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.10 million (#3), A18-49: 1.3/ 4 (#3)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.88 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#3)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.09 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#3) The CW’s soon-to-conclude Smallville remained an option at 8 p.m., with 2.92 million viewers (#3) and a third-place 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. That led into Supernatural with 2.48 million viewers (#4) and a 1.1/ 4 in the demo at 9 p.m. Cellar-dweller Fox populated the evening with a repeat of House (Viewers: #4, 2.76 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3) and waiting-to-be axed The Good Guys (Viewers: #5, 2.47 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2) from 8-10 p.m. Depressing, isn’t it? Game three of The World Series on Fox dominated, but was down by an estimated 6.17 million viewers and 51 percent among adults 18-49 from the year-ago Yankees/Phillies match-up. -Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):The night overall. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:NBC led this final Saturday in October care of game three of The World Series, San Francisco vs. Texas. But just 9.23 million viewers and a 2.3 rating/8 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. paled in comparison to the 15.40 million viewers and 4.7/16 in the demo for the year-ago game three match-up between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia. Historically, this was the lowest rated World Series game ever. My Dad Says (CBS) - Thurs. 8:30 p.m.Viewers: 10.81 million (#2 in time period), A18-49: 3.1/ 9 (#1)Grade: B-Retention out of The Big Bang Theory this week (Viewers: 13.04 million; A18-49: 4.2/13 at 8 p.m.) was 83 percent in total viewers and 74 percent among adults 18-49. Hosted and executive produced by 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan, comedy reality driven Scare Tactics will be available in syndication as a weekly hour. -ABC Yanks The Whole Truth from November Sweeps:Canceled legal drama The Whole Truth, which is expected to air all 13 episodes of its initial order, has been pulled from the November sweeps. ABC will fill the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour with specials Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville (Nov. 3), The 44th Annual CMA Awards (Nov. 10), 25 Years if Sexy: People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive! Signals for all stations and cable channels were restored in time for game three of The World Series. The channels restored were Fox 5, Fox 29, My9, Fox Business Network, National Geographic Wild and Fox Deportes. -Sad News:Denise Borino-Quinn, who played the wife of mobster Johnny “Sack” Sacramoni on HBO drama The Sopranos died Wednesday after a long battle with liver cancer. She was 46 and her death came seven months after her husband Luke Quinn Jr.’s passing.
