The show extends its record as the longest-running prime-time scripted series in history

The longest-running prime-time series in TV history, The Simpsons, will extend its record for at least two more years.

Top line

Fox ordered two more seasons of The Simpsons, locking in the animated series through the end of Season 34 in 2023 and bringing its run to a total of 757 episodes. The network announced the renewal today during the Television Critics Association’s virtual winter press tour.

Between the lines

The Simpsons, which debuted in 1989, is already the longest-running prime-time scripted show in television history—breaking Gunsmoke’s previous record of 635 episodes back in Season 29—and Seasons 33 and 34 will only extend that record.
